HSE: Safety tips in the Christmas traffic
Christmas Eve is approaching and with it comes holiday excursions and festivities at home. Enjoy Christmas time, but also remember that it is a peak season for accidents, both at home and on the roads. Check out the following HSE tips before you embark on your Christmas adventures.
Tips in Christmas traffic
- Drive appropriately for the circumstances and road conditions
- Remember high speed do not save much time on the road
- Use seat belts
- Check weather and traffic reports before you set out on your trip
- Make sure your car is in good condition and equipped for the weather conditions
- Remember to refuel and have washer fluid in your car before you set out on a long trip
- Bring a flashlight, reflective vest, extra clothing, and footwear in the car
- Remember to pack the car safely - loose objects can be dangerous if you need to stop suddenly
- Do not drive when you are tired - stop and take a 15-minute break
Fire safety at home or at your holiday house/cabin
- Ensure that the fire detectors are working
- Make sure you blow out all candles at night or if you leave the house
- Make sure candles do not stand close to anything flammable
- Turn off all Christmas lights at night
- Keep a fire extinguisher in the house and ensure it is working properly
